The Lighthouse Project
The Lighthouse Project is a $2 billion plan which includes a renovated Nassau Coliseum, a five-star hotel, and hundreds of housing units in the Nassau HUB. This is a smart growth project that can provide Long Island jobs and affordable housing as well as an entertainment destination. Read more »
The Heartland Project
The development of Heartland Town Square where the Long Island Expressway meets the Sagtikos Parkway will result in Long Island's first "smart growth" community. The project will include 9,300 housing rental units, a million square foot "life-style" center, 3 million square feet of office space, a state of the art hotel and convention center, indoor and outdoor civic space and an aquarium. Fusing these venues in a planned development will create a vibrant and diverse atmosphere that will appeal to people of all ages. Read more »
Transit-Oriented Development in Huntington Station
AvalonBay at Huntington Station is a proposed development located just west of Park Avenue and about a 1/4 mile from the Long Island Rail Road station. The development will include a 379 apartment community, with a mix of rentals and for-sale units. The project will provide 54 affordable housing unit apartments, and 80% of the units will be rentals. The new proposal promises several significant returns for Huntington, including the creation of needed housing, economic revitalization, and job creation. The momentum is building, but we need one last push to ensure this important project will bring affordable housing, jobs and revitalization to Huntington Station. There is a Town Board public hearing to solicit opinions about the project on Monday, May 16th at 6pm.

View our list of different strategies to develop new affordable housing. YIMBY supports affordable home ownership and affordable rental housing for people of all ages and races. In addition we require that new affordable housing that is built must be affordable in perpetuity. Read more »
YIMBY Criteria
Throughout Long Island there are developments that are being proposed by government and private developers. Some of these projects include affordable housing. We must stand up at Town Board meetings to say “yes” to these good projects. In order to support projects, we must evaluate them. YIMBY has a criteria form which does this. Read more »
